Why Do I Use Henna?

Since the beginning of this year I wanted to change my signature blonde hair back to something different. So in March I braved up and decided to become a redhead for the third time in my life. But normal hair dye wasn’t going to cut it for me this time. After seeing the damaging effects it had on my hair and scalp over the past few years, I decided henna was the best way to go.

Why did I choose to use henna? Not only do I know a lot about henna because of working at Lush, it’s just an overall top-notch option for anyone that’s looking to spice up their hair style. Henna, unlike synthetic hair dyes which penetrate the hair cuticle to change your hair colour, henna works like a varnish, coating the hair with a vivid and unique colour. I personally use Rouge henna from Lush which you can easily get from your local Lush store or online for £10.95. Lush henna is 100% natural, the henna itself is Persian and is sourced fairly. Each block has lots of lovely Fair Trade organic cocoa butter to condition your hair and give it that well deserved TLC! It doesn’t contain anything that isn’t going to benefit the hair, the scalp and the quality of your hair. Not many hair dyes out there can say that their product does that. Rouge is a fiery beauty as the Fair Organic lemon juice helps rejuvenate the hair and make sure that your hair is fabulously fierce! The powdered rosemary acts as a natural antiseptic and soothes the scalp. The dried leaves of the Persian henna plant are ground into a powder then mixed with cocoa butter. The henna blocks then acting like a deep, conditioning treatment to add weight to fly-aways, smooth static and promote gloss.

Here are a few sneaky pictures of my henna hair! Let me know what you guys think in the comments below.

The colour looks amazing on you!! I’ve tried the lush henna before but because I need something much stronger to cover up my greys it doesn’t quite work for me. It was lovely and conditioning though!

I love Lush, and have tried the Henna hair dyes. They are definitely kinder on my hair; although I find that they don’t last as long on my hair, but the benefits out weight the risks from chemical dyes x

Aah no way?? Which colour did you try? 😀
A lot of other cruelty free places do henna that lasts a bit longer I believe, although I can’t remember where exactly they do them!

This color fits you very well. I have never heard of henna before. Do you know if it works on all hair types?

I’d say it would work on all types of hair! Lush have three different colours that intensify and become more vibrant the longer you leave the henna on for. All henna should work in exactly the same way. I’d leave it on for about 3-4 hours to ensure the colour comes off. We generally get told that the longer you leave it on for, the more vibrant the colour will be! 🙂

Funnily enough, my wife can ONLY use henna for her hair… “Normal” hair dyes give her an allergic reaction all over her face and ears…

I love love love your hair colour! It is beautiful. I had no idea henna would be so effective. Got me thinking now. I did actually look at the Lush henna not so long ago, but was unsure. Now I see what it does, I think I may just be sold. And can I just say, working at Lush, how lucky are you.

I had no idea that you could use henna to dye your hair. It looks great on you! I dye my hair red also, can you do it darker with henna as well?

    1. Lily says:

It definitely can go darker! It depends on the hair you put the henna onto. The darker it is, the darker the colour comes out 🙂
